I was born in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin province in Northeast China. It is a young and beautiful city. Qing Dynasty’s official establishment of Changchun Office in 1800 symbolizes the founding of my hometown, thus now it has a history of over 200 years.
Whenever northeastern China is mentioned, people will come up with the word “cold”. It is true that Changchun is very cold in winter. The lowest temperature was -36.5℃ in record. The average temperature in winter is 17℃-19℃ below zero. However, the low temperature in my hometown brings its people a lot of fun. We can make snowman, have a snowball fight and even ski in winter, and all these are luxurious games for people in South China. Winter in Changchun also endows us amazing natural scenery, ice fog, which makes the whole city into a world of white snow and joyful people.
With trees on both sides, roads and streets in Changchun are wide and clean. At the cross-section of each important road and street, there is a round square where people can stay for leisure. City infrastructure is well developed and public transportation is very convenient. Changchun is the main producing area of “Three Treasures in Northeast China”, namely, ginseng, sable fur and deer antler.
Changchun has been known as a city of automobiles, films and forests. Changchun No.1 automobile manufacturing factory (FAW) is the sign of Changchun. There are more than 100,000 workers in FAW. Changchun Film Festival is held every two years and attracts numerous famous movie stars home and abroad. Changchun Jing Yuetan National Forest Park is the biggest man-made forest in Asia.
Living in Changchun is peaceful and comfortable. Although people earn less than those in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, commodity price here is also relatively lower. I think house purchasing disturbs every young man in those big cities because house price per square meter can reach 10,000 RMB on average, but we don’t have such great pressure in Changchun since the average price per square meter is only 3,000 RMB and bank loans are accessible easily. There is no traffic jam because of the wide streets. Restaurants are everywhere and not expensive.
I can stay in Changchun for two months every year. In summer, I like walking along the Yitong River, fishing in the South Park, swimming the Jingyuetan. In winter, I like skating in south lake, skiing on the Lianhua Mountain. It is really wonderful to stay in my own hometown instead of drifting in other cities. Sometimes I think no matter how prosperous Beijing is, it has nothing to do with me. To this city, I’m just a passenger. But to my hometown, I’m a son of hers. I’ll never be given up.
I love my hometown!
