Donald Tsang, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, today said that the SAR government would try its best to assist the rescue the earthquake-stricken area in Sichuan, and the Legislative Council’s Finance Committee had granted HKD300m to help the disaster relief work. It was known that the Hong Kong Legislative Council Finance Committee would hold an emergency special session on the morning of May 14 to pass the disaster relief applications of the SAR government. Donald Tsang said that the Fire Services Department and the Department of Health of SAR government had organized a professional search and rescue team, ready to attend rescue in the earthquake-stricken area of Sichuan. In addition, the Hong Kong Hospital Authority and the Auxiliary Medical Service had also organized a volunteer team, ready to assist the disaster relief of the earthquake-stricken area. Today, Huang Mohui, Hong Kong Red Cross Deputy Secretary-General, said that a number of banks in Hong Kong had set up accounts of “China Disaster Relief Fund”. He said that the Hong Kong Red Cross Deputy had sent staff following the Red Cross Society of China to rush into Dujiangyan, the hardest hit area of in Sichuan earthquake. At the same time, two disaster relief teams of Hong Kong Red Cross had left for Chengdu and Chongqing. |
