On May 15, Vice Minister of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun met with Thomas Rabe, CFO of Bertelsmann AG, who has come to China to participate in the 4th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Expo. The two sides exchanged views on the development of cultural trade, promotion of the export of Chinese culture, etc.
Yi expressed that the participation of Bertelsmann AG would help to enhance its publicity among the Chinese people. The subject research, jointly developed by the two sides on Quickening the Development of Cultural Trade and Promoting the Export of Chinese Culture, aims to thoroughly tap the strengths and potentials of the export of Chinese culture, put forward the feasible policies, measures and proposals which shall play a significant role in deepening the mutual understanding. Up to now, the researches have achieved the preliminary results, which shall be further improved by the two sides. The cooperation is hopefully to be further strengthened through the said topic research.
Rabe expressed that he was very pleased to participate in the Expo and expected to display the preliminary cooperative results of the two sides. The research report of the cooperation between the two sides put forward proposals on China’s development of cultural trade and the promotion of the export of Chinese culture. The two sides need to continue the thorough consultations in the future so as to bring forward practical and feasible measures.
Yi said the promotion of exchanges and cooperation between the two sides can enhance the mutual understanding, and MOFCOM shall grant active support and promotion to this end. Deepened cooperation is expected to develop between Bertelsmann AG and the Chinese cultural enterprises, so as to boost China’s excellent cultural products and services onto the global market.
During the meeting, Rabe expressed, on behalf of Bertelsmann AG, that they shall donate RMB 5 million yuan to the disaster-stricken areas in Sichuan and have initiated the donation by their worldwide subsidiaries and employees.
